If you go to the entries page, you can now see the name of the author that wrote each story.
And the winners are...
Since listmom cc has declared herself ineligible for a prize, our prizewinners are:
Our two "lucky writers" are ~e, author of Story #5 - Caught, and Verlaine, author of Story #9 - Living a Different Lie.
It's time to read the entries and send in your vote.
On 1 January 2005, the Me & Thee list members were issued a writing
challenge: "Make Hutch Sneeze". Those who accept the challenge will
submit new and previously unpublished stories for your enjoyment and
consideration. Entries will be listed without the authors' names in hopes
that they'll be evaluated on story merit(s) rather than author popularity.
The deadline for story submissions is 31 May 2005, and the stories will
all be posted here on 1 June 2005.
The prizes for the contest will be gift certificates to either Walmart
or amazon.com. Entrants who live in places that don't have access to
Walmart or one of the various amazons will have to accept the accolades of
their peers as the prize.
First place: $100 gift certificate plus a $100 donation in the winner's
name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
Second place: $50 gift certificate
Third place: $25 gift certificate
There will also be two "Lucky Writer" drawings from remaining entrants for
$10 gift certificates.
Voting is open only to current members of the Me & Thee list and will
run from 1-30 June 2005.
Instructions on how to vote will be posted on 1 June 2005, when all the
stories are posted.
The complete rules as posted to the Me and Thee List are below.
In general, here's the plan: A writing challenge or theme will be
posted to the list, along with a deadline for entries (see below). Stories
should be sent in .doc, .rtf, or .txt format to CC. After sending you a
confirmation email, I will remove your name from the story and forward it
to the archivist, who will reformat it for web presentation. When the
archivist has all the entries coded, she will post a link to the list
along with the date voting ends and any voting instructions. At the end of
the voting period, the archivist will tally the results and announce the
big winners.
In case you're wondering, we're posting the stories without the
authors' names in hopes that people will focus on the stories, rather than
the writers, while they're voting. We're also counting on writers (and
their betas, if they choose) to maintain that secrecy for the duration of
the contest. Obviously, there's no way to police that, which is why the
emphasis on the writer's honor. Not to worry, all writers' names will be
disclosed at the end of the contest.
Other bits and pieces you need to know: Gen and Slash entries may be
submitted only by current listmembers of the Me & Thee list as of the date
of the announcement. (If there are future rounds, we'll use the membership
roster for the dates of those announcements.)
Stories should be new and unpublished in any forum previously--online
or zine--and should be the original work of the writers who submit
them.
Each writer is allowed only one entry.
Stories should have the following information (and only this
information) at the top of the first page:
Author Name
Story Title
Slash/Gen
Rating (assume R, unless extensive violence or sex; then NC-
17)
Entries should be a minimum of 10k of text (about 3.5 -- 4.0 pages of a
standard document). Poetry submissions are the single exception and have
no size limitations. Here's an example
of a 10k text file.
Once your story has been accepted, it can only be withdrawn, not
corrected. Please check your stories carefully prior to submitting. After
posting, stories can not be withdrawn. This means you may withdraw up to
31 May 05.
Not everyone will love this idea, and that's okay. You can't, however,
go about the fandom badmouthing the contest and still expect us to accept
an entry from you. If you have complaints, voice them here or directly to
our inboxes, and we'll try to address them.
If this contest works out with good participation, we will have another
with similar prizes, a different theme, and the donation going to the
EGPAF.
